Backend Engineer — Payments & Escrow
About this role
Build and maintain our payment infrastructure, Paystack and Stripe integrations, multi-currency escrow engine, and automated fund release system. Critical systems with zero tolerance for downtime.
What you'll do
Take ownership of your domain and drive outcomes without waiting for permission
Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, legal, and deal teams
Contribute to a culture of craftsmanship, transparency, and continuous improvement
Represent Africa Acquisition with professionalism in all external interactions
Participate in hiring and mentoring as the team grows
What we need

3+ years of relevant professional experience in this function
A track record of delivering high-quality work with minimal supervision
Strong written communication and the ability to operate effectively in a remote-first environment
Deep alignment with our mission: building Africa's deal infrastructure
Experience working in or with African markets is strongly preferred
Nice to have
Bonus points, not blockers.
Previous experience at a high-growth startup or platform company
Knowledge of African fintech, M&A, or digital business ecosystems
Multi-lingual capabilities relevant to our operating markets
